AKWESASNE – Lewis L. "Porky" Garrow, 76, a proud Wolf Clan member, of Sweet Flag Manor, Rooseveltown, passed away early Sunday morning, January 1, 2023 at the University of Vermont Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Porky was born on October 10, 1946 in Syracuse, the son of the late Alex and Agnes M. (Herne) Garrow. He attended schools in Tully and Fabius before leaving school early to work with his father in the family business. He was a truck driver for various trucking and construction companies.
He was a communicant of the St. Regis Catholic Church and member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens. Porky was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan, enjoyed going for rides with his sister Honeybee and brother Dewey, and would often be seen sitting at the end of Aggie Lane watching and counting the cars going by. He also enjoyed visiting with all his nieces and nephews and eating out at local restaurants.
Porky is survived by his sister, Hazella "Honeybee" Terrance of Akwesasne; his brothers, Robert Herne of Arizona, Ronald and Diane Garrow and Alex and Minnie Garrow, all of Akwesasne; his brother-in-law, Walter Bero of Akwesasne; and his god children, Cody Terrance, Thomas "Cubby" Terrance, Jr., Mary Pearl Burk, and Christopher "LaBoy" Jacobs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Donita Roxanne, Beverly, and Rosemary Garrow and Geraldine "Debbie" Bero and his brothers, Sam, Dewey, and Frank Garrow.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made in his memory to the St. Regis Catholic Church Heritage Fund.
