Halloween Road – Trick or Treating for Littles

Akwesasne- Gather 'round ghouls and boys, it's time for a walk down Halloween Road.

While most people are touring haunted houses or taking a leisurely haunted hayride, we kicked off this candy-coated season at the Tewatahita Walking Trail.

Thursday October 27, 2022, marked the fifth year of spooktacular fun for ages 0-6 years old, sponsored by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Health Promotion and Planning Program. Kids and monsters alike did their trick or treating through various friendly Halloween themed booths from 2-5pm.

This event, unlike other events in the area that see hundreds of trick or treaters, emphasized the importance of keeping it simple and kid-friendly. There were no scary costumes either, reiterating the kid friendly theme.

Krystal Peters, who has been a key organizer for this event in years past said, "We try to keep it smaller, there's 15 programs participating. There's more interaction with the parents. It's more fun."

Programs that attended and handed out treats and smiles to the Akwesasne littles are listed as follows. SRMT: Health Promotion and Planning, Executive Services, Tribal Clerk's Office, Social Service Division, IPP, Preventative Foster Care, Early Learning Center and TLAP, Child Support Enforcement Unit, Mental Health and Tribal Court.

Also there, was Buttons the Clown, Akwesasne Zero to 6, Iakwa'shaste Youth Fitness, Onkwehon:we Midwives Collective, Healthy Families New York, Holistic Life Foundation of Akwesasne, MCA Wholistic Health & Wellness Prevention Unit and Happy Eats.
