A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is kicking off Crime Prevention Week from November 6-12, 2022. The theme for this year, “Safer, Stronger Together”, will enable police services to promote the benefits of a collaborative response to local crime and social issues related to safety and well-being, as well as educate members of the public on what they can do to stay informed and support community safety initiatives.
The goal of Crime Prevention Week is to promote safety in our community and learn to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
This month, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service will introduce the Akwesasne Community Watch Program which will highlight the importance of preventing crimes and keeping our community safe. Information sessions will take place throughout the month.
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service will also be promoting the “Lock It or Lose It” campaign throughout the Canadian portion of Akwesasne. Police officers will examine parked vehicles to confirm they are locked and that no valuables have been left in plain view. Police will place a notice on the vehicle indicating what safety precautions were neglected and offer simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft. The notices also congratulate drivers who have secured their vehicles and documents properly.
