October 25, 2022 – The 2022 municipal election has resulted in a shuffle around the trustee table for the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB). In the new term, starting Nov. 15, the UCDSB will welcome four newly elected trustees, four incumbents and two acclaimed.

The trustee results of the Monday, Oct. 24 election have all been officially verified by municipalities, except for Wards 3 and 4. The results are as follows:

Ward 1 – Lynda Johnston (new)

Ward 2 – Carole Dufort (new)

Ward 3 – Jamie Schoular (incumbent)

Ward 4 – John McAllister (incumbent)

Ward 5 – Michel LaBonte (new)

Ward 6 – Lisa Swan (incumbent)

Ward 7 – Larry Barry (acclaimed)

Ward 8 – David McDonald (incumbent)

Ward 9 – Curtis Jordan (new)

Ward 10 – Corina Parisien (acclaimed)

“Congratulations to the trustees elect and to everyone who was a candidate for the office of UCDSB trustee. It is admirable to see everyday citizens put their name forth to serve the communities in which they reside, in the name of public education and advocacy for students and families,” says Director of Education Ron Ferguson. “I’m looking forward to working with the new board when they take office. As a school district, our primary focus is to prepare all students to have successful lives and help them achieve their fullest potential. I strongly believe we are well-positioned to continue with that mission.”

David McDonald will serve another term after being re-elected to Ward 8, which encompasses Cornwall.

The new Board of Trustees will be sworn in on Nov. 16 during their inaugural Board meeting of the 2022-2026 term. In the interim, the current Board of Trustees will continue in office. The last official board meeting for the existing Board of Trustees is on Nov. 9, with the new term taking effect on Nov. 15.

The trustees of the UCDSB serve more than 27,000 students in 78 schools. Trustees are empowered under the Education Act to set policy for the operation of all public schools in the counties of Lanark, Leeds, Grenville, Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott and Russell, providing an essential link between the school system and the community.
