The Akwesasne Eagles flag football team ended their season on Saturday, Sept 17 with an eight-team tournament held at Generations Park. Flag football is for children in kindergarten to grade 2. The Akwesasne Eagles team hosted two teams each from Canton, Potsdam, Malone and North Franklin and a Tri-Town team.
Flag football for these young players included two coaches on the field along with one referee. Tsiorasa Barreiro, along with other parents started this league nearly years ago when his boys were young. Now, he acts their referee. Not taking sides, the final game was called for Canton, with Canton winning in a close game 4 to 3 over Akwesasne.
All teams were co-ed, with girls playing along boys running as fast, if not faster in some instances.
