AFS interim Co-Managers Konwanahktotha Sargent (L) and Leona Barnes (R) accepting a $5,000 check from CKON Station Manager Reen Cook on behalf of the Akwesasne Communication Society Board of Commissioners.
The Akwesasne Freedom School received a generous donation of $5000 from the Akwesasne Communication Society Board of Commissioners. The donation is derived from the CKON Radio Bingo Community Fund.
The donation was made for AFS's continued language preservation efforts and keeping our culture and traditions alive for the next seven generations. Interim co-managers of AFS stated the money will be used towards the daily operational expenses.
AFS teachers and staff recently welcomed back their students on Tuesday, August 23 with 85 students returning. Most class sizes have eight to ten students in each class from Pre-K to grade six.
