Canton, NY— On August 11th 2022, the CDC loosened community COVID-19 guidance. COVID-19 remains an ongoing public health threat; however, high levels of vaccination, infection-induced immunity, and availability of treatments have substantially reduced the risk for serious illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. Now, current recommendations shifts to focus on preventing severe illness and death to the more vulnerable populations.
What to Do if Exposed:
You can still develop COVID-19 up to 10 days after you have been exposed. If you were exposed to the virus there are steps you should take regardless of your vaccination status.
After being exposed:
-Start precautions immediately
-Wear a mask around others as soon as you find out you were exposed for 10 days
-Take extra precautions if you will be around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19
-Watch for symptoms for 10 days
-If you develop symptoms, isolate immediately, get tested, and stay home until you know the results
-Get tested at least 5 full days after your last exposure, even if you don’t have symptoms
-If you test negative, continue taking precautions through day 10
-If you test positive, isolate immediately
*Unvaccinated individuals no longer are advised to go through a 5 day quarantine period.
