A Voice from the Eastern Door
The St. Regis Mission Church is organizing a group of Akwesasronon Elders, residential school survivors and parishioners to attend the visit of Pope Francis who will travel to Quebec City, where he is expected to meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Governor General Mary Simon and Indigenous leaders. He will hold mass on July 28 at 10:00 am at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre.
The St. Regis Mission is in contact with the Archdiocese of Ottawa and Cornwall to collaborate on travel to Quebec City for the visit of Pope Francis. The Archdiocese will be organizing buses for members of the Indigenous Community to go to the Mass on July 28th at 10 am at Ste-Anne de Beaupre. They anticipate about 40 indigenous people to attend the Mass from Ottawa.
It is anticipated that priority for seating at the Mass will be residential school survivors and groups of Indigenous people from the area. There is a registration system that will be implemented for persons wishing to attend the Mass.
If you are interested in attending, please contact the St. Regis Mission Rectory Wednesday to Friday between 9 am and 1 pm at 613-575-2753 or private message our St. Regis Mission
Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stregismission attention RJ Dolly McDonald.
The deadline is July 1, 2022 so please contact us ASAP if you want to participate in the Pope Francis Mass and visit.
We will have more details to share once we receive more information about the logistics and registration requirements. We have a limit of 40 for the bus leaving from Cornwall.
