Kahnawake Peacekeepers update on threats made against local schools

On the afternoon of June 2nd at 3:09pm, the reception desk at Kateri School received a phone call from an unknown individual who made a threat against the school. Fortunately, classes were already dismissed at the time of the call.

Officers immediately moved to secure the building and ensure the safety of those still inside the school.

At 3:08pm, Karonhianónhnha school received a suspicious call from the same phone number as the caller to Kateri School. The caller did not say anything, and the receptionist disconnected the call.

The Kahnawake Peacekeepers are investigating the origins of this call with assistance from outside agencies.

The Kahnawake Education Center elected to close all schools under their control as a precaution and officers were posted at the childcare facilities that remain opened.

On Friday, June 3rd, at approximately 6:00pm, the Kahnawake Peacekeepers were advised by the Texas Department of Public Safety that the suspect who placed the threatening call to Kateri School, and a separate call to Karonhianónhnha School, had been identified as a 10-year-old girl in San Antonio, Texas.

The girl and her friends admitted to using the mobile app Roblox to coordinate the prank. There is no longer an active threat to the community.

Peacekeepers will maintain a police presence in the vicinity of local schools to ease the anxieties of parents, students, and staff.

No charges are pending at this time.
