Akwesasne: Joseph J. "Jimmy" Mitchell "Aronhiatekha" ,75, of Akwesasne, better known as Bubba, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Cornwall Community Hospital.
Jimmy was born September 3, 1946 on Kawehnoke, the son of the late John and Evelyn (Thompson) Mitchell. He attended school on Kawehnoke and later married Diana Sawatis on May 28, 1988 at St. Regis Catholic Church. He was an Ironworker for Local #711 of Montreal for many years.
Jimmy enjoyed fishing and was in many bowling and pool leagues throughout the years. He also liked playing radio bingo, going to the casino and was a great cook who was known for his biscuits and corn soup.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Diana of Kanatakon; his children, Lucy (Timmy) Mitchell of Kanatakon, Lesley Lazore and companion Joshua David of Tsi Snaihne, Wilfred Lazore and companion Beverly Chubb of Hogansburg, Andrea Lazore and companion Kennedy Garrow of Kanatakon and Robert Sanke and children of Syracuse, Tanya Mitchell and children of Six Nations; his grandchildren, Kirbie, Kane, Orlan, Angel, Kaylee, Stance, Tokwie, Kelson, Iohahes, James, Kenny, Randy, Kiara, James Jr., Nola and Avis; a great granddaughter, Hazily Gabriel-Lazore; god children, Farrah "Kawa" Delormier and Kelson Lazore; two sisters, Margaret Mitchell of Kawehnoke and Darlene Jacobs of Hogansburg; two brothers, David (Jackie) Mitchell of Hogansburg and Larry (Barbara) Mitchell of Kawehnoke; a brother-in-law, Gabriel (Nora) Cook and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by a son, James Robert Mitchell "Choo Choo"; two sisters, Gladys Mitchell and Esther Jock; a brother, Noah Mitchell and a grandson, Waylon Henry.
Friends called on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena from 9:00 am until time of service at 3:00 pm.
Memorial contributions in Jimmy's name may be made to the Hogansburg American Legion or Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.
