VICTIM SUPPORT WORKER

FULL - TIME THREE (3) YEAR TERM POSITION WITH POSSIBILITY OF PERMANENCY AKWESASNE COMMUNITY JUSTICE PROGRAM DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

SALARY LEVEL: HS06 ST2 $46,513.51

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of Program Manager of Akwesasne Community Justice Program. The incumbent is responsible for providing direct services; offer information, emotional support and assist with making necessary referrals to programs, services and assist with paperwork. Provide Prevention Education and Awareness relating to Victims of Crime. Ensure clients receive services in a timely manner that initiates closure and incorporates Mohawk Traditional practices as well as healing through Traditional and non-Traditional practices. Maintain positive networking with programs and services to assist Victims. Incumbent must be dedicated, outgoing, have an open mind to working with vulnerable families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related to field or equivalent work or volunteer experience and training preferred.

Must work well with person of varied sexual preference, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently-abled.

Awareness of relationship violence, child abuse and sexual abuse and assault.

Knowledge of counseling and advocacy techniques for people who have been victims of domestic violence, including crisis intervention and case management skills beneficial.

Previous employment or volunteer work in human services, community agencies or other related

Knowledge of Court Processes

Ability to work flexible hours; evenings & weekends and willingness to use personal vehicle

Maintain Standard 1st Aid & CPR certification
