Massena Raiders applaud six senior lax players, two scorekeepers

MASSENA – The Raiders varsity boys lacrosse team applauded eight seniors, six players and two scorekeepers, before their home game against the Plattsburgh Hornets on Thursday, May 12.

Kyden Jacobs, who wears #20, has been a varsity attacker for three years. He is the son of Ryan Jacobs and Kanentahawi Delisle. He plans on attending college to become a heavy equipment operator. He said his favorite lacrosse memory is "playing with the boys." He also said his favorite quote from Coach Jimmy Morrell is, "Catch the damn ball!"

Scorekeeper Mackenzie Garrow is the daughter of Amanda and Ross Garrow. She plays varsity hockey and is a First Team All Northern awardee. She is also a French National Honor Society member. She plans to attend Nazareth College to study political science. She says after graduation, she'll miss her friends the most.

Dominic Monacelli, who wears #9, is a team captain and has played longstick defense for three years. He is the son of Jason and Lindsay Monacelli. He also plays varsity football and has won several awards and honors, including being named a Section 10 offensive MVP. Monacelli plans on attending SUNY Morrisville to play football and study business management. He said his favorite lacrosse memory is, "Beating Brasher! We will all remember that!"

Ryan Letham, a team captain who wears #16, has been a varsity midfielder for four years. He is the son of Ed and Linda Letham. He also plays hockey and soccer. He's been awarded various academic and athletic honors, including National Honor Society and as a 10th grader the Mike Hazelton Defensive Player of the Year for hockey. Letham said his favorite lacrosse memory is beating Ogdensburg in playoffs during his junior year. His favorite quote is from legendary NFL Coach Bill Belichick, "Do your job!"

Zack Barney, who wears #12, has played both midfield and longstick midfield on the varsity team for three years. He is the son of Nate and Cari Barney. He also plays on the varsity hockey team. He plans on going to lineman school after graduating. He's a member of the National Honor Society and is an Academic All-Northern hockey player. He said his favorite lacrosse memory is scoring his first goal, and he will miss his friends when he leaves after graduating. His favorite quote is when Coach Nick Morrell says, "Golf after practice."

Ben Rogers, a team captain who wears #1, has been a varsity attacker for four years. He is the son of Scott and Carrie Rogers. He also plans on attending lineman school after graduating. He also plays hockey and soccer. He is an All State First Team member for hockey and a National Honor Society member. He said his favorite lacrosse memory is the pre-game bus rides, and after graduation he'll miss seeing his friends every day. He said his words to live by are, "When the going goes right, just go left."

Gavin Jarrett, who wears #15, has been a longstick defenseman for three years. He is the son of Joe and Jessica Jarrett. He plans on studying mechanical engineering at Clarkson University in the fall. He is also a National Honor Society member. Jarrett said his favorite lacrosse memory is, "bus rides with the team all fired up before the game." He also said after high school, he'll miss seeing the people he's been around his entire life every day. His favorite quote is from Albert Einstein, "Learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for the tomorrow."

Scorekeeper Libby Rogers is the sister of graduating senior Ben Rogers, and is the daughter of Scott and Carrie Rogers. She also plays varsity soccer and is a First Team All Northern awardee and Northern Athletic Conference MVP for soccer, and is a National Honor Society member. She plans to attend SUNY Cortland in the fall.
