Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department Presents Second Awareness Truck

The Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department (HAVFD) Station 3 firefighters continue to bring awareness to the struggles many Akwesasronon endure. Part of this awareness campaign is the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) honoring Indigenous women and girls affected by violence against women.

In January 2022, the HAVFD – Station 3, presented the "Akwé:kon Ratiia'tanóron Ne Ratikshàokon:'a – Every Child Matters" graphics honoring a long-standing member of their fire department - William Sunday. Sunday is a former Spanish Residential School survivor. To present this honor, Station 3 had one of their fire trucks repainted by local artist Joe King. King designed the HAVFD truck graphics, the firemen approved the design and Long Graphics from Cornwall completed the design on First Run Engine-93 fire truck – a fully operational fire truck.

Joe King and Long Graphics were again called upon to the MMIWG design.

The Hogansburg-Akwesasne Fire Department will introduce their newly painted Engine Tanker 95 fire truck on May 5, 2022, for the MMIWG "No More Stolen Sisters" march and ceremony.

Join the Three Sisters Program, the Seven Dancers Coalition and members of the HAVFD for a community march and ceremony in honor of all Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The march begins at the TVI parking lot and finishes at Generations Park. The day will include a tobacco burning, special guest speakers, traditional singers and honor song, and informational booths. A community meal will be provided to participants.
