J. William Leary Jr. High School Welcomes 28 Lacrosse "Aboriginal Lacrosse Program"

Vaughn Harris, originally from Six Nations and owner of 28 Lacrosse was welcomed into the J. William Leary Jr. High School in Massena this past week. Harris introduced the Creator's game to 420 students during the week.

Harris said, "28 Lacrosse is dedicated to improving our next generation of lacrosse players focusing on cardio, lacrosse IQ, and confidence on and off the floor. It was great to work with J. W. Leary Students, they were attentive and enthusiastic. We try to make skills training fun for the kids. Every student tried our activities and did their best."

Harris was assisted by Isaiah Cree, who is taking time to 'give back to the youth' before he starts his internship in Montreal this summer.

28 Lacrosse has hosted a series of camp and league in the past few years. They are currently hosting the Spring Lacrosse Camp with Indigenous Sport & Wellness Canada and Akwesasne Child & Family Services! They will be back at the Benson Center in Cornwall with 'tons of prizes and special guests.

28 Lacrosse finished their March Break Holiday Camp which was held from March 14 to March 16 at the Benson Center. The camp featured daily Iakwa'shaste fitness activities and special guests Adam Bomberry, Shayne Jackson, Storm Cree, Turner Thomas and Jacob Ruest Bomberry donated fifteen Galt lacrosse sticks for March Break Holiday Camp participants.

28 Lacrosse recently started their Attack Lacrosse on April 11, offering boys in grade Pre-K to K, grade 1 and 2, grade 3 and 4 and grade 5 and 6.

In addition to Attack Lacrosse league, 28 Lacrosse is honored and thrilled to bring back field lacrosse to Akwesasne and the surrounding areas.

28 Lacrosse was sponsored by the Massena Central Jr High Title VI program. Title VI is a federally funded formula grant program that currently services 270 Native students in the Massena Central School District. Their program continues to provide courses and services that support our Mohawk Language and Culture Instruction. They also provide academic instructional support and enrichment activities such as this workshop.
