A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Saturday, March 5, four Salmon River high school track team members earned the honor to participate in the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. Coach Brockway and Coach Coon traveled with Junior Cayde Lazore, Sophomore Makenna Manson, Junior Krissy Oakes and Sophomore Jasmine Oakes.
Krissy Oakes opened the day by improving her school record in the Triple Jump with a leap of 31 feet 6 inches.
In the 3200m, Cayde Lazore set a personal record with a time of 10:38.58. Later, Cayde stepped back on the track to run the 600m. He was just off of his PR with a time of 1:35.03.
Makenna Manson ran the 55m with a personal record of 7.84. On her next race, Makenna ran a personal record in the 300m with a time of 45.57. Makenna is getting very close to breaking a very old school record.
Jasmine Oakes ran a hard 3000m run. She finished in an unofficial time of 11:55.
Krissy closed the day running the 600m. She was just off her PR with a time of 1:47.77.
Salmon River and community is very proud of these four athletes and look forward to seeing them come back next year stronger and faster.
