AKWESASNE. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center and Health Services reported twelve (12) new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, January 14, 2022, making (24) total active cases in Akwesasne’s southern portion. On the northern portion of Akwesasne, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne reported eight (8) new positive cases and seventy-two (72) positive rapid tests results for the week.
St. Lawrence County reported three hundred and thirty-nine (339) new cases on Friday, Jan. 14, 2022. SLC also reported two thousand four hundred and fifty-eight (2,458) active cases throughout the county.
Franklin County reported one hundred and fifty-six new (156) cases on Friday, January 14, 202, with eight hundred and fifty-two (852) active cases throughout Franklin County.
First Nations in Canada continue to struggle with the latest wave of the COVID-19 and the variants. In Manitoba, more than 50 First Nations have at least one active case of COVID-19, and more than 20 First Nations have at least 10 cases. There are 63 First Nations in Manitoba.
As of January 14, there are currently three thousand two hundred and fifty-two (3,252) active COVID-19 cases among First Nations people in Manitoba, both on and off-reserve.
The latest update from Indigenous Services Canada has 61,532 total cases of COVID-19 across the country since the pandemic began in March 2020, 5,456 of those are active cases and 55,499 have recovered.
First Nations in British Columbia have seen a total of 6,871 with 209 newly reported active cases since the pandemic began.
Alberta has been the hardest hit province with 15,485 cases overall and 38 newly reported cases, but Saskatchewan (16 newly reported active) and Manitoba (35 newly reported active) are rising quickly with a total of 14,102 and 14,266 cases respectively.
First nations in Ontario reported 5,993 total cases and 430 newly reported active cases, Quebec with 3,840 total cases 278 newly reported active cases. and the Atlantic region with 975 cases and 46 newly reported active cases of COVID.
In Canada’s north, there are 1,875 active cases combined between the three territories. 473 active in the Yukon, 128 in Nunavut, and 1,274 in the Northwest Territories.
