Public invited to Open House at FEH BOCES's North Franklin Educational Center

MALONE – Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES invites the public to an open house at North Franklin Educational Center, its school in Malone.

The Open House runs 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. North Franklin Educational Center is at 23 Husky Lane in Malone.

Guests will be welcome to tour the building. Each classroom will be open, and teachers will be in each room to talk about their program and demonstrate tools and other equipment used in it. Some classrooms will have students helping with demonstrations as well.

Refreshments will be served by our Culinary Arts students in their kitchen classroom.

FEH BOCES offers a range of hands-on, career-oriented educational programs at North Franklin Educational Center, which welcomes students from Brushton-Moira, Chateaugay, Malone, St. Regis Falls and Salmon River central school districts. Many classrooms are set up to mimic the workplace, and FEH BOCES partners with local businesses and organizations to help students get real-world experience. Most of the programs at NFEC help students earn certifications or college credits.

The Career and Technical Education programs at NFEC are half-day, two-year programs for juniors and seniors. Students can choose from Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Electrical Trades, Health Occupations. NFEC is also home base for two CTE programs that are taught at Salmon River: Welding Technology and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

Four New Vision programs, for seniors only, also fall under the CTE umbrella: Education, Health Care Exploration, Government and Law, and Game Design and Development. North Franklin Educational Center also houses an Alternative Education program, which helps students who have trouble thriving in a traditional school setting find their path to graduation.

Our Northern Borders Academy, or P-TECH, gives students the opportunity to earn both a Regents diploma and an associate degree from North Country Community College while exploring four different career pathways through hands-on experience and close partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.

Masks will be required at all times during the open house, and everyone entering the school will be required to fill out a coronavirus questionnaire when they arrive.

To RSVP, find the event on the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES Facebook page, facebook.com/FEHBOCES. Anyone with questions about the event should call the school at 518-483-6420.
