Massena wins close soccer game over SRC; 'Rocks down Gouv.; Raiders also successful in football, volleyball

In a Massena-Salmon River boys soccer meetup, the tilt turned into a double-overtime nail biter that went to the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Salmon River volleyball defeated Gouverneur, and the Massena gridmen took a blowout victory over Potsdam.

• Monday, Sept. 28, girls soccer, Massena 3, OFA 0 – Elizabeth Rogers, Kristen Oliver and Gabrielle Laughlin booted in a goal apiece en route to the home field win. Olivia Merrill turned aside 12 shots for Ogdensburg.

• Monday, Sept. 28, volleyball, Canton 3, Massena 0 -- The Golden Bears swept the game by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-14. For the Raiders, Katelyn Benham had eight assists and four service points. Sydney Cardinal had three kills. Faith Halladay, Ella Murtagh and Keely Bova tallied five service points each. Payton Benson generated two kills. Felicity Engstrom fashioned three service points. The same day, Salmon River beat Gouverneur 3-1.

• Sunday, Sept. 27, football, Massena 40, Potsdam 8 – Dominic Monacelli scored a trio of touchdowns as Massena easily took the road victory. Monacelli recorded 10 carries for 115 yards. He also ran in two touchdowns, one from a single yard out, and the second 33 yards. DeShawn Walton caught a 39-yard TD pass for Massena. For Potsdam, Gavin Phillips rushed 33 times, gaining, 121 yards and scored a TD from five yards out.

• Friday, Sept. 25, boys soccer, Massena 3, Salmon River 2 -- In a bout that went into extra frames, Luke Greco scored 45 seconds into a second overtime to lift Massena over Salmon. The Raiders outshot the Shamrocks 38-29. In corner kicks, SRC had 13 attempts to Massena’s

eight. Chase Lewis scored both goals for the ‘Rocks. Ty Lucey scored on a penalty kick for the Raiders. SRC netminder Ethan Moulton fashioned 21 saves. Massena goalkeeper Collin Patterson tallied 19 saves.

• Wednesday, Sept. 23, volleyball, Malone 3, Salmon River 0 – The Huskies swept the game in three sets, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19.

• Tuesday, Sept. 21, boys soccer, Salmon River 3, Potsdam 0 – Kade Cook, Canyon Laughing and Dylan Johnson accounted for the game-winner, plus two insurance markers. Ethan Moulton denied seven Sandstoner scoring attempts.

• Monday, Sept. 20, girls soccer, Massena 4, Norwood-Norfolk 0 – Liz Rogers and Brooke Terry accounted for the Raiders’ goals, scoring two each. Caramia Carista stood tall in the Flyers net with 16 saves.
