James 'Jimmy' Schultz makes his finally journey home

After a long wait for family and friends, James 'Jimmy' Schultz made his journey home on Friday, July 23, 2021. As family, friends, relatives and supporters gathered at the Peace Tree Mall, Jimmy arrived from Montreal, QC. Schultz went missing in September of 2005, his body was found in 2010, a statistic of the missing and murdered Indigenous children, but Schultz was not identified until February of 2021.

In November 2020 a long-standing law was finally changed to allow cross referencing between the Missing Children's Network and Missing Persons Network by the Supreme Court of Canada.

Community members joined at the crossroads on Kawehno:ke to walk Schultz through Akwesasne where he was finally laid to rest in a private ceremony surrounded by his mother Jolene Bigtree, foster parents Dana Leigh and Larry Thompson, Elizabeth Reymond, and his brother and sister Brandon and Tara.

Community members rested at the Native North American Traveling College as close family members continued on to Harbor Rd for James' final resting place in the family cemetery where Loran Thompson and Richard Mitchell conducted his final funeral rites.

Refreshments and a full traditional meal were served to all community members at the NNATC and a moment of silence and closing words were said at 2:30pm.
