NNATC Says Farewell to Long Time Employee

The Native North American Travelling College staff and board members bid farewell to longtime employee Manager JoAnn Swamp. Swamp has been with the College for over forty years, saying she was grateful when they hired her based on her knowledge and fluency of the Kanieńkehá:ka language.

In her early years at the College, she worked with elders – meeting with elders and gathering their stories. She said many of those elders are no longer with us. Swamp has been there for the College's growth and development and when it faced its most serious challenges, such as the massive fire it experienced in 1979.

Also, there to say goodbye and to wish her well were Onake board members, including President Bernice Lazore. Lazore thanked her for her service to the College and the consistency and long-term commitment to the community, to NNATC and Onake.

NNATC's board president Katsitsionni Fox also thanked Swamp on behalf of herself and fellow board members. Throughout the years, JoAnn has seen a number of employees, managers and directors, with Swamp remaining the consistent and steadfast factor all these years.

Swamp had worked in various positions at the NNATC and of late, assumed the leadership role of manager on NNATC. JoAnn Swamp will not return to NNATC after her three-year term as Tsi Snaihne District Chief has ended.
