Memorial Tree Planted for Former Kana:takon District Chief

District Chief Daryl Lazare was recently memorialized with a tree planting by Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Grand Chief and district chiefs. With Lazare's family present, Grand Chief Abram Benedict and Kana:takon District Chief Tim 'Dooley' Thompson addressed those gathered by briefly recollecting Chief Daryl Lazare's tenure serving 'the district he loved so much and worked tirelessly for'.

Mrs. Lazare and children were present and graciously accepted the opportunity to be part of the planting to the blue spruce tree. After the Lazare Family filled soil around the tree, friends, coworkers and districts chiefs solemnly laid soil as part of the tree planting.

The tree chosen was a blue spruce, similar to trees in his own yard. The tree is planted near the shore along the walking path on the St. Regis Recreation grounds, for all to enjoy.
