A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Tuesday, June 8th, the Thompson Island Cultural Camp launched their new water taxi in the water with the help of Department of Infrastructure, Housing and Environment crew David Papineau, John Jacobs and Craig Delormier. Clint Martin and Leb Thomas Fiber-To-The-Home crew assisted with traffic control with an escort from the Akwesasne Mohawk Police. Fred Thompson from the Arena assisted in the move.
Norman Peters and Mike Buckshot from Thompson Island Cultural Camp and Fred White fabricated the water taxi. The taxi was towed to a local marina to install the motors and wiring.
The water taxi will help bring our community to and from Thompson Island and is wheelchair accessible - to include all youth and elders to participate in Thompson Island Camp activities in the future.
