Raiders come out on top in Massena-Salmon baseball, softball, track matches

The Massena Raiders came out ahead of the Salmon River Shamrocks in recent baseball, softball, and track and field action.

Massena took a decisive 11-1 win over Salmon on Friday, May 21 in Fort Covington.

David Dubray struck out nine Shamrocks batters and connected for two hits at bat. Zack Monacelli posted two hits for Massena. For the ‘Rocks, Luke Miller added two hits, one of which was a triple.

On Tuesday, May 18, Massena bested Salmon in boys and girls track and field. In the boy’s bout, the final score was Raiders 82 Shamrocks 48. Ryan Deshane won the high jump and the triple jump. Aaron Binion bested the 200 meters and discus throw. Cayde Lazore took first in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters for SRC.

In the girl’s competition, Massena won 63-41. Mya McSurdy finished first in the 100, 200 and 400 meters for the Raiders. Olivia Morrell win the shot put and discus for Massena. Krissy Oakes won the 800 and 1,500 meters, and the triple jump for the Shamrocks.

In softball on Saturday, May 22, Massena defeated Salmon River as Grayce Trimboli knocked four hits and Ainsley Cromie posted three doubles for Massena. Salmon River’s Lindsey Durant knocked a double.

Two days earlier, Massena’s softball squadron narrowly defeated Canton 11-10. Massena pitcher Caitlyn Reed sat down 11 batters and connected for three hits herself. Ainsley Cromie had three hits, including a home run. Kirsten Oliver and Jaylyn Cook each connected for three hits.

Also, on Thursday, May 20th, Salmon River fell to OFA in a doubleheader by 18-0 and 22-1 final scores.

Salmon River and Massena both earned baseball wins Wednesday, May 19th.

Massena downed Canton 12-1, which included home runs from Nathan Eastwood and Connor Terry. Zack Monacelli, David Dubray and Emery Deshaies each tallied two hits.

Salmon River beat OFA 15-2. Luke Miller had four hits for SRC, Caiden Carter knocked three, and Kade Cook notched a pair of hits.

In Tuesday, May 18th, softball contests, Salmon River fell to Potsdam and Massena blew past Gouverneur.

The SRC final score was Sandstoners 16, Shamrocks 10. Jacobi Mitchell connected for a pair of hits.

The Massena game’s final score was 21-10 Raiders. Caitlyn Reed struck out nine Wildcat batters and went 5-6 at bat herself, including two triples and a double. Grayce Trimboli and Ainsley Cromie each went 4-6. Delaney Durant went 3-5.

In Monday, May 17 baseball tilts, Massena beat Gouverneur in a doubleheader in game one 4-1, then lost by one run, 11-10, in game two. For Massena, Chris Paige and Zach Monacelli had two hits in game one for Massena. Emery Deshaies hit a two-run single. Thomas McGregor, Brennin Snyder, Nathan Eastwood and David Dubray tallied two hits each in the second game.

The same day, Salmon River defeated Potsdam 7-2. Chase Lewis knocked two hits for SRC.

Massena raced past Malone in a Saturday, May 15 baseball game by a 14-1 final score. Zack Monacelli struck out 14 Huskies batters and hit two RBIs.

The same day, Salmon River lost to Canton 8-7.

Massena’s softball team fell to Franklin Academy Friday, May 14, 8-2. Isabelle Wilson went 3-3 at bat for Massena. Kirsten Oliver tallied two hits.

In track and field on Thursday, May 13, Salmon River lost to Norwood-Norfolk in boys and girls meets. The boys meet had a 59-33 final score, and 113-14 in the girl’s bout.

On Wednesday, May 12, David Dubray hurled a no hitter for Massena, striking out 13 batters. Chris Paige connected for a home run. The final score was 5-0.

In softball on the same day, Massena downed St. Lawrence Central 13-4. Caitlyn Reed had 13 strikeouts. Grayce Trimboli went 3-3.
