AMBE REOPENING UPDATE

In consultation with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the AMBE Board of Trustees, AMBE has made the decision to adjust its reopening dates at our schools and centers. The safety of our staff, students and ultimately the community of Akwesasne has been our number one priority throughout the looming threat and potential spread of the Covid-19 virus and its variants. Please be advised that all dates are tentative and are subject to change based on the number of positive cases of Covid-19.

The following changes are being applied to the AMBE School Calendar:

March Break will be moved to March 1-5, 2021.

Remote online learning will continue until April 9, 2021.

Students in the hybrid model will return to school on April 12, 2021.

Updates for the Akwesasne Child Care Program:

On March 1, 2021 childcare centers will reopen for the children of essential workers.

On April 12, 2021 childcare centers will fully reopen.

Updates for AMBE Foundations and T.R. Leger at Iohahi:io:

Scheduled to return to onsite on February 16, 2021.

Updates for Iohahi:io Akwesasne Education and Training Institute:

Will continue with online learning, each program may differ, please consult with your program advisor or instructor for any changes.

Please know that when making these difficult decisions all possible options were taken into consideration with much deliberation. The health and safety of our school community has been at the forefront of our decision-making process. AMBE has been extremely cautious in our response to the pandemic and has done our very best to limit any risks within our schools and centers.

Due to the increase in positive cases in the community being reported and in the surrounding areas we cannot safely return to in-person without risking exposure. Contact tracing is not immediate and exposure in the homes can occur before we are made aware. We are all very eager to return in-person and are requesting your support in limiting travel and gatherings in order for our schools to be able to reopen safely.

We must continue to work collaboratively, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your school principal or your child’s teacher for academic support.

A Parent meeting will be held on Zoom on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 6:00PM.
