Salmon River school board approves retirements, appointments

The Salmon River Board of Education approved retirements and made several staff appointments during their January monthly meeting.

They accepted retirements from custodian Stephen Benedict, effective Feb. 27; and secondary teacher Daniel Mainville, middle school teacher Linda Ryan and middle school teacher Mary Ann Post, all effective Jan. 28.

The board accepted a resignation from watchkeeper William M. Benko, effective Jan. 4. Mainville also resigned his roles as Student Council advisor, Sunset Math instructor and mentor, all effective Jan. 4.

The board granted leaves of absence to building maintenance foreman Wayne Ashley from Nov. 2, 2020 to Feb. 28, 2021; and elementary teacher Joyce Leaf, from Jan. 11 to March 8.

The trustees voted to grant a permanent appointment to home school coordinator Hailey Cartier, effective March 11.

The board extended the probationary period for watchkeeper Camden Durant through Sept. 1.

The board also appointed substitutes Alexandra Coringi and Molly McDonald. Effective Jan. 14, they will be paid $101 per day to substitute for a teacher, and $12.50 per hour to fill in for a teacher assistant or teacher aide.
