AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe announced a community review of the Draft Hemp Production Regulations will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021. The review will be a virtual discussion utilizing ZOOM, with the meeting link for membership to participate available on the Tribal Members Portal at http://www.srmt-nsn.gov.
Development of the draft regulations follow approval from membership to explore steps needed to legalize, license, and regulate hemp under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. The approval came from a tribal referendum held on December 3, 2016, which saw sixty-six percent (66%) of members favoring the exploration into hemp production.
In accordance with the 2013 Tribal Procedures Act, the Draft Hemp Production Regulations were developed and made available for tribal member’s input and feedback. A 30-day comment period was provided for members to submit their written comments by 5:00 p.m. on February 4th, which will conclude with a virtual review of the draft regulations.
A copy of the Draft Hemp Production Regulations continues to be available for membership to view on the Tribal Members Portal. The draft regulations are also available upon request from the Tribal Clerk’s Office, Office of the General Counsel or the main reception desk at the Ionkwakiohkwaronon Tribal Administration Building.
