INDEPENDENT FIRST NATIONS POST-SECONDARY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

The IFN’s are seeking a highly motivated dynamic individual to fulfill the responsibilities of

IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Technician to work on behalf of the IFN Communities. First Round of this employment opportunity is open to members of the Independent First Nations (IFN).

Term

The IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Coordinator will be hired for a TERM contract position with possibility to extend employment beyond March 31, 2021. The IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Coordinator will be governed by and adhere to the IFN Personnel Policies.

Description

The Independent First Nations Education Staff will provide supervisory oversight of and support to the Post-Secondary Engagement Coordinator position to insure they will successfully fulfill the tasks included in the job Roles and Responsibilities.

Purpose and Scope of the Position

The National Indian Education Council and Indigenous Services Canada have provided funding to conduct regional engagements to discuss First Nation post-secondary education (PSE). The purpose of this engagement process is to support First Nations as they work to develop a new regional model for the post-secondary program. The IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Coordinator will have the lead role in a comprehensive engagement among the 12 Independent First Nations. The IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Coordinator will gather feedback in order to make informed recommendations for enhancements to the post-secondary program that will benefit First Nations students.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Establish working relationships with the IFN Staff and IFN communities’ educators, leadership, parents, and students;

• Gather information about IFN communities’ post-secondary programs/systems;

• Hold virtual and/or in person engagement sessions in IFN communities;

• Participate in any relevant sessions about post-secondary engagement occurring in other Ontario First Nations communities

• Collaborate with IFN Education Staff to prepare a comprehensive report with recommendations in a timely manner.

Working Conditions:

• Work requires the ability to take direction, prioritize, work independently and cope with many demands and time constraints

• Work may require travel from time to time when it becomes safe to do so

• Work may require flexible work hours

Working Relationships:

• With IFN Staff and Leadership: The IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Technician will promote courtesy, cooperation and teamwork with staff, including chiefs and portfolio holders and/or as identified.

• With External Agencies: The IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Technician represents and promotes the Independent First Nations and seeks to develop sound professional working relationships on behalf of the IFN.

• With the IFN Communities: The IFN Post-Secondary Engagement Technician represents and promotes the Independent First Nations in a courteous manner and provides information and advice as required and directed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Grade twelve (12) or equivalent required.

• Post-secondary 2- or 4-Year Program in relevant field.

Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent oral and communication skills

• Essential computer competencies

• Ability to establish priorities

• Organizational skills

• Ability to be creative, conceptual thinking, and relationship skills

• Research and analytical skills

• Ability to take direction under restraint timelines to carry out IFN activities

• Ability to work with diverse Independent First Nation Communities

• Ability to maintain a professional public image representing the IFN

• Ability to maintain confidentiality

Other:

• Valid Ontario Driver’s License and insurable.

• CPIC upon request

Location: Satellite Office

Salary: $20/hour or $39,000/annum
