GLADUE WRITER

FULL TIME POSITION DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

Salary Level: HS02 $51,124.57

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager of the Akwesasne Community Justice Program, the incumbent is responsible to write and submit Gladue Reports as requested by the Judge, Crown or Defense Counsel for Indigenous (First Nations) offenders in Canada. Gladue reports are pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada section 718.2(e) and the report will provide the court with comprehensive record regarding the client’s socio- economic history as well as current and mitigating circumstances. The incumbent will provide recommendations and options available to the court in sentencing. The Gladue Writer will assist the Community Neh Kanikonri:io Council for the Section 84 Onkwehonwe program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• College or University education in social work, law, corrections, mental health, certification in Aboriginal studies and/or paralegal/legal assistant

• Minimum three (3) years relevant experience working within Aboriginal communities.
