A Voice from the Eastern Door
Many voters in Franklin County have noticed a typo on their voting ballot. Democratic vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris, Joe Biden's running mate, has a typo in her first name. It's missing an "a," so it reads "Kamal D. Harris." The mistake is repeated twice on the ballot because she and Biden are listed under both the Democratic party and Working Families party.
According to Franklin County election commissioners' ballots containing a typo will still be counted. Commissioners Tracy Sparks a Republican and Brandon John Varin, a democrat estimate roughly 1,500 ballots were mailed out with the typo.
The commissioners blamed a printer error and said proofreaders didn't catch it. They've since placed a new order with their vendor correcting the typo.
"They can be re-sent, but any ballot received with that error, that ballot will still count," said Varin. "It will not invalidate the ballot."
To date about 3,000 residents have requested absentee ballots, with about half issued so far. The deadline for requesting a ballot by mail or online is Oct. 27.
