Franklin County Receives Traffic Safety Grant

The Franklin County Traffic Safety Board (FCTSB) is pleased to announce that it has received a $17,882 grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee for the 2020 – 2021 year. The grant identified that in 2018, Franklin County had a 32% increase in vehicle crashes over the prior year. Preliminary data from the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research (ITSMR) shows that crashes in 2019 decreased 7% from the year before but still remain 22% over 2015. The grant will allow the FCTSB to continue to employ a Traffic Safety Coordinator that will work with local agencies to identify high crash areas so that enforcement can be targeted in those areas, provide educational opportunities to schools and civic groups and to maintain a Facebook page and Website. The grant runs from October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021.The FCTSB started in 1971 with a mission to serve as a partnership with local agencies and individuals to identify traffic safety issues in the county and to come up with solutions to address those issues.
