A Voice from the Eastern Door
THANK YOU!!!
To All Who Supported Me,
On Sunday, September 13 I became very sick. I had a very bad cough, headache, body aches, chills, congestion, and I was having a hard time breathing. When I monitored my oxygen levels, they had dropped down to 89%. My husband took me to the ER that evening. We sat in the ER from 10 PM until 8 AM the next morning. They took me back and took blood, did a chest x-ray, and they administered a Covid test. They took me back to a room and started an IV. They received results for my Covid test, and they were positive. My chest x-ray was also showing that I had pneumonia too. I was in pretty rough shape. Within the next hour, I was admitted into the Covid unit at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. They started Covid infusions on the day that I was admitted. My doctor told me that I would have to receive 5 days of Covid infusions and that they would keep me on oxygen throughout the time that I was there. I spent the next 5 days alone in the hospital receiving medications and treatment for my pneumonia. My husband and children were not allowed to come visit me because I tested positive for Covid. We did a lot of FaceTime phone calls.
I want to thank everyone who called me, sent me a text and prayed for me daily. The hospital is a very lonely place. Just to receive messages and know that people cared about me meant so much to me. My Loran, Arquette, Syracuse & Mohawk Assembly of God Church families have never failed me.
My aunt, Kim Loran, started a Stanley Cup Finals 50/50 Benefit Board on my behalf. She knew that the hospital stay and all of the medications I received were going to be very overwhelming for us even after insurance paid their part. I’m so grateful to her, to my mom, Nadene Sunday and to my cousin Shelby Bero for running around and collecting. I also would like to thank all of the 100 people who purchased a square to support me…you’re the best!!! A big shout out to Louella “Guzzy” Lazore for purchasing a square in my name, you’re a very thoughtful person, it’s appreciated!! It’s very overwhelming for me to think about how my Akwesasne family and the Community cared so much to do that for me. I am forever grateful to all of you and I can feel the love all the way out here in Missouri. The money that was raised will help us tremendously when we receive all of the hospital bills.
I am feeling so much better now. I’ve been going on daily walks to help with my breathing and stamina. I am still in quarantine in my home, but I was allowed to come out of my bedroom on Friday, September 25. That was the first time I was allowed to hug my children in 2 weeks! I am very grateful for the Lord’s hand on my life. He has never failed me or let me down. I am out of quarantine on October 5, 2020. Your continued prayers are much appreciated.
Thank You All So Much,
Deirdre Arquette Smith
