St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Remains under State of Emergency
By Kaniehtonkie
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe ‘Cooling Stations’ will not open. During the extremely hot weather, the Office for the Aging is loaning air conditioners to our elderly but due to restrictions, the SRMT cannot provide assistance in installing them. Elders will need assistance from family members and able friends to install the air conditioners.
As of May 26, 2020, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe remains under a state of emergency. The SRMT Travel Advisory is still in effect, any person traveling beyond a 50 mile radius of must self-quarantine for 14 days. A Community Curfew is still in effect from 10 pm to 6 am. Only essential workers are permitted to travel at this time. SRMT EOC is still strongly advising against gatherings of more than ten people at private residences for birthdays, graduation parties, or for other social gatherings.
Remember social distancing and wearing a mask helps to keep Akwesasronon safe.
The State of Emergency will continue until COVID -19 no longer poses a threat to the health safety and welfare of Akwesasne.
