Youth in Akwesasne made their debut appearance on social media, with the encouragement of the Akwesasne Child and Family Services. With a Lip Sync contest announced via the Akwesasne Child & Family Services Facebook page, youth throughout Akwesasne pulled out their mic's hoping to win the top prize. With prizes announced for several different age categories, there was no shortage in excitement for the hopeful participants.
The deadline for video submissions, was Friday April 17th. Winners for each category was determined by the number of likes received for each performance that was shared on the ACFS Facebook page. The performers who received the most likes were the lucky winners of all the great prizes provided by the Akwesasne Child and Family Services and the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.
Although not every participant won a prize, every participate did walk away a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem; what more could a parent ask for?
