A Voice from the Eastern Door
(March 26, 2020) Cornwall – Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is advising users of the St. Lawrence River that the gates used for recreational boat passage at the Iroquois control dam remain partially lowered and unavailable for use. The gates remain lowered due to high water flows through the St. Lawrence River caused by the increased outflow from both the Moses-Saunders and Long Sault dams. These outflows are in response to the high water levels and inflows to Lake Ontario. The gates will remain lowered until such time that flows are reduced and conditions allow for safe passage.
This decision and notification is in accordance with the operating regulations of the International Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Board.
OPG would like to remind all users of the river to take every precaution around dams and generating stations. To learn more about water safety, please visit opg.com/watersafety.
OPG is the largest electricity generator in the province, providing almost half the power Ontarians rely on every day. It is also one of the most diverse generators in North America with nuclear, hydro, biomass, solar and gas assets.
