Massena comes out ahead in boys and girls basketball against Salmon River

Massena and Salmon River's varsity girls and boys basketball teams went head-to-head with the Raiders coming out on top in both games.

The boys teams played Friday, Jan. 31 in Massena. The Raiders took an early lead and didn't let go until the final buzzer. They led 18-4 after the first period, 28-10 at halftime, 42-19 after the third period and the final tally was 55-26.

Chris McGregor paced Massena with 14 points. Adam Peets and Ethan Firnstein chipped in nine points each. Thomas McGregor and Luke Greco scored five points each. Four points apiece came from Ethan Barney and Ryan Herrick. Zachary LaBarge scored three points and the other two came from Hayden Amo.

For Salmon River, Logan Lebehn set the pace with eight points. Harry Cook notched seven points. Tyler Huto netted four points. Clayton Jones, Charles Aldridge and Cayden Sunday each contributed two points. Toby Jacobs made a free throw.

The previous evening, the Massena and Salmon River girls played a game that ended in a 55-24 Raiders victory.

For Salmon River, Kamea Thomas scored eight points, along with a rebound and a steal. Jacobi Mitchell (three rebounds, one steal) and Kiyahna Thompson (one rebound) each tallied four points. Two points apiece were contributed by Lindsay Martin (one steal), Iohseriio Tabor (one steal), Meg Martin (one rebound) and Mia Leroux (three boards, one steal). Sarah Tremblay and Katrina Conners each tallied one carom.

On the Massena side, Layla Bingham scored 12 points, a game high. Aryssa Hopps pitched in nine points. Savannah Gauthier, Nova LeGrow and Kailey Peets scored eight points each. Shaylena Mandigo scored five points. Breanna Taraska scored two points and Tsiokoseriio David made a free throw.
