Massena split two games against Canton and Potsdam as the Shamrocks were unsuccessful against Malone and Ogdensburg.
Tori Jacobs scored 16 points as Massena went on to defeat Potsdam 58-37 on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in Potsdam. Tsiakoseriio David notched 10 points and Nova LeGrow chipped in 11. Julia Basford paced Potsdam with 19 points.
In the Monday, Jan. 13 game the Raiders lost to Canton, the final score was quite close -- 52-50. Tsiakoseriio David paced Massena's offense with 18 points. Aryssa Hopps and Nova LeGrow each scored nine points. Hayleigh Armstrong scored six points. Layla Bingham and Lexi Jacobs tallied three points each. Shaylena Mandigo chipped in the other two.
For Canton, Sarah Siemenski scored a game high 20 points. Katie Crisholm fashioned 14 points. Maddie Hoy scored seven points. Esther Shipman scored five points, Mary Lobdell four and Gretchen Warner two.
Two nights later, Massena went on to down Potsdam 58-37.
Salmon River had a tough go against Ogdensburg. The Lady Shamrocks lost to the Blue Devils 67-16 on Friday, Jan. 17 in Fort Covington. Kamea Thomas picked up 10 of the team's points. Kiyahna Thompson, Meg Martin and Savannah Swamp each pitched in two points. Thomas also fashioned five steals and five rebounds.
"Well it was better than the first go around. OFA is just too long and athletic, which brings out our youthfulness with turnovers. They are well balanced, with four girls in double figures. We were much more aggressive today. It will take time but we'll get there," said Shamrocks Coach Shawn Martin.
The Lady Shamrocks didn't fare much better against the host Franklin Academy Huskies earlier in the week on Monday, Jan. 13. Malone got out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter, 39-14 at halftime, and kept the remainder of the game locked down.
Kiyahna Thompson led Salmon River's offense with seven points. Kamea Thomas scored four points. Jacobi Mitchell notched three points. Lindsay Martin, Iohseriio Tabor, Meg Martin and Mia Leroux all pitched in two points. Martin also grabbed nine rebounds.
Madison Ansari scored a game-high 26 points for the Huskies, along with four assists and three steals. Leah Gallagher had a double-double: 16 points and 13 caroms, along with three steals. Jordan Pickering had nine points with six rebounds. Alanna Dumas scored six points. Caitlin Douglas scored four points with seven steals. Mackenzie Lane had two points with four rebounds. Ryleigh McCauley had two points with four assists and four boards.
