A Voice from the Eastern Door

Wednesday, January 15th marked a momentous moment for Akwesasne Mohawk Board of Education, and especially Kana:takon School, which played a major role in AMBE's digitization of the Kaniehkeha language. Parents of students who attend one of the three AMBE schools were invited to the unveiling of the newly developed website: imohawk.ambe.ca.
It's been a year in the making and now a quarter of the way completed. The Akwesasne Mohawk of Education with the hard work of Montreal based developer CREO, have launched AMBE's digital Kaniehkeha arsenal.
Equipped with stories, games and lessons, AMBE's Director, Donna Lahache stated "We have only finished level one, out of four levels, and we have been working on developing this site since April 2019."
Everyone fortunate enough to attend the unveiling of the newly developed site was given a password to login to the site and have a hands-on experience.
There was plenty to see and learn during the event. Starting off with a free spaghetti dinner, and welcome remarks given by Lahache and Alice King, Superintendent of Mohawk Language and Culture. Once all was said and done, everyone was invited to attend the several mini workshops, all showcasing what Kana:takon School's Skawatsire Program has to offer their students. Of course, the highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the new website. For the parents, or community members interested in checking out the new website; all you have to do is visit their website: imohawk.ambe.ca, and when prompted with a login password; enter skah123.
