Four minutes and 30 seconds after that goal, Wilmshurst took a pass from Terry and connected for the eventual game-winner. Chilton punched in an insurance marker, assisted by Terry, with 5:42 left in the first period. Terry scored a goal in the second period, on a power play with helpers from Wilmshurst and Mackenzie LaClair. Wilmshurst finished off a hat trick with just under two minutes to go in the middle frame on a play set up by Terry and Chilton. Massena goalie Mackenzie Garrow made 20 saves. Mackenzie Wiggins turned aside 21 for Canton.
The Salmon River boys battled to a 2-1 overtime win over Beekmantown
“Always tough to win at SUNY Plattsburgh. Beekmantown is always disciplined. Great team effort for us,” said Coach Tim Cook Sr.
Tim Cook Jr. scored the first goal of the game 1:57 into regulation after getting the puck from Connor Lewis. Keegin Rodler tied the game for Beekmantown in the middle stanza. Assists came from Collin Latinville and Dalton Kane. After a scoreless third period, Cook Jr. won the game in overtime. He scored the only other goal they would need on an unassisted play 2:57 into OT.
The Salmon River boys scored three goals in less than a minute to rout St. Lawrence Central on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
“Kids wanted this game a lot tonight. We had some new lines and threw in a few wrinkles. Nice one to get in the league,” Shamrocks Coach Cook said.
After a stalemate first period, Cobie Cree, Ethan Moulton and Stone Chubb posted three goals between 5:27 and 6:15 in the middle stanza. Assists came from Moulton and Alex Oakes, Cree, and Kade Cook and Jared Showen, respectively. Kade Hayes scored in the closing frame for Beekmantown, with a helper from Jarrett St. Hilaire. Shamrocks goalie Ryan Oakes made 26 saves. Jonah Burnett made 29 saves for Beekmantown.
The Massena Raiders boys lost 6-2 to Potsdam, and then had their Mark Tyo Tournament the weekend of Jan. 9 and 10 postponed due to icy weather.
“Both the Lancaster and McQuaid coaches regret that this has occurred and we will make attempts to re-schedule games if our respective schedule openings allow for it,” said Massena Coach Mike Trimboli.
