Barbara Montour CPA and Associates are now up and running out of a revitalized century-old building in downtown Akwesasne.
Montour, who has been a CPA since 2006, runs an office of four and specializes in small and medium-sized business accounting. Also working in the office are Montour's business partner, Joseph Bowen, and accountants Skasenneo Shenandoah and Allen Terrance.
"In Akwesasne and the surrounding community are a lot of small-sized and medium-sized businesses, and that is our forte," Montour said. "We're local and we are sensitive to the local economic needs."
They also offer payroll, accounting and tax return assistance for personal clients, among other services.
She hopes her office will come across as friendly to clients who don't necessarily have finance background.
"We speak in layman's terms when we do everything so people understand," Montour said. "We [help] people understand financial statements and how important they are to decision making."
She gave credit to Scott Loran for fixing up their new office.
"It's beautiful. Thank you to Scott Loran and his construction company and subcontractors," Montour said.
