Massena now offers Newspaper Club

By Andy Gardner

MASSENA. Students at Massena High School now have the option of participating in Newspaper Club.

The group will publish a print periodical for students to read in their down time in the school café.

The Board of Education on Thursday night appointed high school teacher Andrea Vierno their volunteer advisor.

“They want to provide this club as an opportunity of student writing and an awareness of what’s going on in this district,” Superintendent Pat Brady said.

Their officers include president Logan Dobbins and vice president Carly Garcia, who pitched the idea to school administration.

“The appeal was very well-written, very well done,” board Vice President Paul Haggett said.

The club aims to have 15 or more members working as “journalists, editors, photographers and artists.”

“The goal of the paper is to get the news of the school, community, sporting events and the county to students and adults who would like to hear what the students have to say,” the club’s proposal reads.
