The Massena Raiders have won the overall Section 10 volleyball title and are headed to state playoffs.
They won the crown in back-to-back games against Chateaugay and then Canton on Friday, Nov. 8 in their home gym in Massena. Massena is now headed to regionals on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Burnt-Hills Ballston Lake High School. Their opponent is to be determined.
"Very proud of this team, Canton played so well, and it was back and forth," said Massena Coach Maggie Farrell. "It was a great night of volleyball."
Massena easily downed Chateaugay in three straight sets. The scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-15.
Their win over Canton was much closer, 3-2. Massena won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-19. Canton came back and won the next two by scores of 25-15 and 25-14. Massena then regained control of the game and won the closing stanza 25-16. The Golden Bears had earned their spot against Massena by defeating the Ogdensburg Blue Devils prior to the Massena-Chateaugay game.
Tsiakoseriio David and Delany Durant "took control at the net," Coach Farrell said, with 21 and 23 kills respectively and a combination of 15 blocks.
Ieronhenehtha Lazore and Olivia Morrell had over 60 assists combined.
Outside hitters Anna Thompson and Abby Benham had a combination of 15 kills and had more than 10 digs each.
