Spinner's Pizzeria experiences extensive damage after fire

On Monday, October 28, a local pizzeria and marina went up in flames on Monday afternoon. According to reports, it may have been a faulty pizza oven switch. Spinners Pizzeria and Tackle Box Marina, located on River Road in Akwesasne experienced what seemed like a small explosion and then fire around 2pm. Everyone is safe and owner Danielle Oakes stated, "I'm grateful for the quick response of the Hogansburg Akwesasne Fire Department".

Oakes added, "We were just finishing our renovations, we were so proud of it. I couldn't wait to invite you all to come check it out; an all new bait and tackle shop and a spiced-up kitchen and the upstairs was transformed into a hotel for mighty fishermen to come rent and enjoy our "Big River". I'm beyond words. Thank you for all of your compassionate messages. It's clean up time".

The Oakes plan to clean the site and rebuild as soon as possible. They want to go forth with their annual Louie Oakes fishing tourney on November 10, hoping someone will bring in a 'big muskie'.
