By Andy Gardner

Massena and Salmon River soccer teams recently squared off with Lisbon, Brasher, Canton and Potsdam.

The Shamrocks lost 3-0 to Lisbon on Friday, Oct. 18.

“After the goals we had a bit of fire but (Lisbon goalie Abagail) Flack did a great job backstopping her team. They jumped on us quick in the second half and we couldn’t take advantage of a few opportunities that we were given,” Coach Liz Durfee said. “On a highlight, we did have the opportunity to recognize our eight seniors: Yenastanunha Thompson, Rylee Garrow, Delanie Deshane, Karli St. Ann, Kamea Thomas, Olivia Moulton, Alexis Seymour and Meg Martin.”

Gabrielle Taylor scored the opening goal at 14:47. Her teammate Emily Jordan, assisted by Taylor, scored the first insurance goal at 27:38. Kallie Wood scored from Jordan at 44:08. Flack made 13 saves. Meg Martin made eight saves. Makhia Snyder relieved her with 5:38 left in regulation and made one save.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, Massena shut out St. Lawrence Central 5-0. Kylie Latham, Jeanelle Burke, Lindsay LaDue, Hayleigh Armstrong and Shaylena Mandigo booted in Massena’s goals. Libby Rogers assisted three of them. Sabella Cromie made three saves.

The same day, Salmon River was shut out by Canton 5-0. Meg Martin stood tall in the Salmon net with 14 saves. Katie Chisholm scored the opening goal at 9:40 unassisted. Hannah Reed scored on a play set up by Chisholm at 38:47. Chisholm scored a second unassisted marker at 42:12. Amelia Rodee booted in the fourth goal at 67:32. Quinn Woodward converted from Emalyn Martin with under four minutes remaining in the game. Canton goalie Abbie Dent made one save.

The Massena Raiders boys team lost to Potsdam 3-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Garrett Engstrom and Nick Morrell scored Massena’s goals. Danner Dorothy scored once and assisted twice for Potsdam.

Due to the rainstorm that went from Oct. 16 to 17, Salmon River’s boys soccer game against Canton was postponed. It was to have been played Monday, Oct. 21 in Canton.
