Tribe Announces New Chief Financial Officer Henry Roy

AKWESASNE– The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe announces the hiring of Henry Roy, CFA/CPA, as the tribal government's new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Roy joined the Tribe on Kenténha/October 21, 2019 and brings many years of financial leadership experience to the Tribal government.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to get to know the Mohawk community in Akwesasne and use my skills and experience to strengthen Tribal self-determination and economic self-sufficiency. The Mohawk people are known throughout Indian Country for their work ethic and commitment to their culture and defense of their inherent rights," stated Henry Roy.

From 2016 to 2019, Roy served as CFO at the Maniilaq Association & Hospital Center in Kotzebue, Alaska; which provides health, tribal and social services to twelve (12) Alaska Native tribes in Northwest Alaska. During this time, Roy managed a team of accounting professionals that ensured oversight and responsibility of all financial matters for the hospital association-including revenue cycling management and maintenance of relationships with external funding agencies that included Indian Health Service.

Roy also served as Controller for the North Slope Borough of Alaska and as CFO for four (4) years with the Confederated Band and Tribes of the Yakima Nation in Washington State. As Yakima Nation CFO Roy was responsible for financial reporting, debt management, operational and capital budgets, investments, retirement plans, audits and all functions relevant to financial management of tribal governmental operations.

Prior to his work with Alaskan Native and Native American Tribes, Roy worked as a Credit Analyst and Assistant Vice-President for the Wells Fargo Bank, as well as a Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch where he managed investment portfolios for domestic and international clients.

He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and both a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Chartered Management Accountant. Roy is also a member of the CFA Institute and the Government Finance Officers Association, as well as a member of the HFMA-Health Care Financial Management Association and the NAFOA-Native American Finance Officers Association.

"Henry's diverse professional experiences are impressive, and we know that they will be put to good use here at the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe for the benefit of the Akwesasne community," shared the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council.

As the Tribe's Chief Financial Officer, Roy will be responsible for all matters related to the financial affairs of the tribal government; financial analysis, accounting practices, and relationships with banking institutions. Other responsibilities include investments, audits, financing arrangements, as well as summaries and forecasts for future growth and general economic outlook.

"We welcome Henry to the Tribal management team. Our Tribal government will benefit from his extensive experience to optimize certain functions of our Tribal operations. In particular, billing and revenues collections at Health Services, capital financing and debt-capacity analysis are areas that Henry will be of great assistance," added SRMT Executive Director Tsiorasa Barreiro.
