The Salmon River Shamrocks came out the winners of a bout on the volleyball court with the Massena Raiders.
Massena won the first set 25-17. Salmon River regrouped and swept the next three. The scores were 25-21, 25-10 and 25-14.
"We came out strong then went downhill from there," Massena Coach Maggie Farrell said. "Salmon made fewer mistakes and out-hustled us."
The Shamrocks' Rylie Gray made nine kills, served up 11 points and tallied one block. Kania Swamp had seven service points with five kills. Kendall Jock served 16 points and made four kills. Tyana Benedict served up 12 points and also made four kills and four blocks. Halle Lazore fashioned 11 assists.
Two days later, the Shamrocks defeated Chateaugay 3-2. Salmon River took the first set 25-16. The Bulldogs recovered and won the next two by scores of 25-21 and 25-20. Then Salmon River came back and won the last two 25-20 and 25-11.
Rylie Gray had 15 service points, four aces and nine kills. Kylee Smoke served up 13 points and made nine assists. Tyana Benedict tallied 16 service points with eight kills. Kania Swamp notched six service points and 10 kills. Kendall Jock served up eight points with three kills. Ryanna Bero had seven service points. Halle Lazore generated six assists.
On Friday, Sept. 27, Massena shut out Tupper Lake 3-0. Statistics were not available.
In varsity swimming action that same day, the Raiders and Shamrocks both hit respective pools. Massena lost to Franklin Academy 60-33. Salmon River lost to Canton 129-31.
