Canada walked away with their fifth straight gold cup in the at the World Lacrosse Indoor Men's World Championship.
The Iroquois Nationals briefly held the lead in the first quarter, sometimes by a single goal before Canada pulled away to win the games 19-12 at Langley Events Center, Langley BC. Iroquois started strong taking a 1-0 lead when Williams beat Poulin in close on the first shot of the game, just 19 seconds into the game. Canada responded by taking a 4-2 lead before Iroquois balanced again.
The Canadians led 6-5 after 15 minutes, then outscored Iroquois 5-1 in the second quarter to take an 11-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter shots were even at 15-15. Then Canada extended its lead to 14-8 and killed off a holding penalty to Dan Coates.
In the fourth quarter Iroquois scored four times but couldn't cut the deficit making the team settle for silver for the fifth-straight time at this event.
Zed Williams led the Iroquois with five goals and six points. Tehoka Nanticoke scored three times and Randy Staats and Cody Jamieson each had a goal and an assist in the losing cause.
Canada's Dane Dobbie had a team-high 10 points, including three goals, while Curtis Dickson scored five times and set up two others. Robert Church also had a big game with four goals and an assist in the victory.
Iroquois' Warren Hill made 37 saves on 54 shots for Iroquois and Doug Jamieson allowed one goal on two shots during 1:17 of relief duty in the second quarter. Team Canada' Mike Poulin made 42 saves in net.
Cody Jamieson was named the most valuable player while Randy Staats and Canada's Mark Matthews were the forwards named to the All-World Team. Joining them on the team were the United States' Joel White and Canadians Graeme Hossack and Kyle Rubisch and goaltender Mike Poulin.
