It was a beautiful late summer weekend as local ball players paid tribute to one of their own.
The seventh annual event was held last weekend at the Louie King Memorial Ballfield.
Teams were The Gramblers, Shizzy, St. Boys, Saints, War Party, Sons Of Pitches, Aces, defending annual tournament champion Dirty Birds, and when it was over, Country Funk took the championship with a final win over the Saints.
Smoke passed away in 2012 and was an avid softball player known for her speed around the diamond and her love of many other sports. Because of that the Shizzy Smoke award for fastest runner was awarded to Jacolbie Thompson. Jim Jenkins of champions Country Funk won the Male MVP award and Kelby Mitchell won the Female MVP award.
Many thanks to all the organizers, players and volunteers in different capacities from clean-up to concession stand workers. It was a great weekend to honor Shizzy.
