imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival presents iNDigital Space

Indigenous-made Digital Works, VR and Games

imagineNATIVE is excited to announce iNDigital Space, a free, large-scale presentation of indigenous-made digital works and games October 23-27, 2019. Located in a newly curated space on the main floor of the TIFF Bell Lightbox, this year’s iNDigital Space will be designed by the Indigenous arts collective Article 11, multi award-winning set designer Andy Moro.

Running throughout the 20th imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival in Toronto, Ontario, iNDigital Space is an exciting, interactive and educational space, unlike any other, dedicated to enhancing the presentation, development and discourse on Indigenous-made digital and interactive media at imagineNATIVE.

iNDigital Space will host over 15 contemporary Indigenous digital and interactive media works to explore and play including special guest and award-winning game designer, Elizabeth LaPensée, who will be presenting her newest project When Rivers Were Trails, a choose-your-own adventure about the Anishnaabeg in the 1890’s dealing with the impacts of allotments Acts on Indigenous communities.

iNDigital Space will also feature VR works by multiple award-winning Dene singer-songwriter and VR artist Casey Koycza, who utilizes a wide skill-set within media-based outlets such as experimental video and virtual reality as a platform to present his visions. Play as BB the bouncing bannock and dodge hungry crows as long as you can in Dallas Flett-Wapash’s web game Waskwetin Pahkwesihkan (Bannock Bounce), or start learning and practicing Baybayin, the ancient writing script of the Tagalog people of the Philippines in Mylene Haus’s Tower of Baybayin.

iNDigital Space will also host daily Art Talks where artists and game makers will be discussing Audio, Video Games, VR and Interactive Education. At the Night of the Indigenous Devs special event on Friday October 25, audiences can listen to a handful of iNDigital Space creators talk while their game is played live all in a TIFF Theatre.

The iNDigital Space invites everyone to explore, play and see an exciting showcase of indigenous VR, video games, AR, interactive websites and more!
