Akwesasne Cultural Center Museum – Revamped New Look and New Exhibits – Ready to Welcome You!

Reopening celebration set for September 27th

The Akwesasne Cultural Center (ACC) Museum has been under renovation since Fall 2018 made possible through funding from several sources including the Mohawks of Akwesasne Community Settlement Trust, Strong Roots Charitable Foundation, Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, Institute of Museum Library Services and the ACC. In addition, we have been very fortunate to receive technical assistance, guidance and support from many talented Akwesasrónon who graciously offered their time and talent to provide an outstanding museum and cultural heritage experience to our visitors.

Our museum has received a total makeover from floor to ceiling with many new features including a devoted, accessible entrance leading directly into the Museum, and some very attractive landscaping. Our newly renovated space has new exhibits with beautiful and visual stories to be told as you walk from one display to the next. Our visitors will see many beautiful artist paintings and renderings of our Creation Story and others. Visitors will also get to experience our new Virtual Reality Exhibit and our specially designed Mohawk Basket Showcase. Something new and exciting to share. We even renovated our Sweetgrass Gift Shop.

Some local contractors who played a critical role in our construction and remodel were Mohawk Contracting, Three Feathers Design LLC, Northern Landscaping, Dave Fadden, Mohawk Baskets, Unique Wraps, Akwesasne Artistic Services, Slick Electric and many other key individuals and companies.

Our museum is planning its reopening for Friday, September 27th with a Community Open House Event scheduled from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. All are invited to come and see our new space and exhibits. Free admission for this event.

We look forward to seeing you! Niawen:kowa for your patience and support during our renovation.
