AKWESASNE – Evan Robert Adams, "Kanerahtonke", 32, of 2083 River Road, Sugar Bush Island, tragically passed away Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2019 at Cornwall Community Hospital.
Evan was born June 2, 1987 in Cornwall, Ontario the son of Eva (Lazore) and Vaughn Adams. He attended Salmon River Central School and later achieved his GED before graduating from St. Lawrence College.
Evan worked for a time as a construction laborer with Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and helped his grandfather as the caretaker on Stanley Island. He had recently been working with small engine repair at Baia's Garage in Tsi Snaihne. He enjoyed doing his handy-man work, tinkering on small engines, hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time on the river. Evan had a very generous spirit and would always lend a hand to those in need whether they asked or not.
Evan is survived by his daughter, Miia Oakes; his parents, Eva and Vaughn; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Louise Lazore; his paternal grandparents, Rita Peters Adams and Jake and Karen Adams; his brother, Aaron Adams and Kelly Tarbell and their children, Wade and Blake; his sister, Ivana Adams and Dylan Cook and their daughter, Autumn; his godparents, Lori and Luke Lazore; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, Zachary V. Adams on April 1, 2009.
Friends called at the home of his parents Thursday and Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club.
